Financial Times Reports: Arm to Produce Its Own Semiconductor

According to a report from the Financial Times on Sunday, Arm Ltd, a British chipmaker, is developing its own semiconductor to showcase the capabilities of its products and attract new customers after its upcoming Initial Public Offering (IPO) later this year. The arm will be working with manufacturing partners to develop this new semiconductor, and the company has established a new “solutions engineering” team to lead the development of prototype chips for mobile devices, laptops, and other electronics.

The report states that Arm’s newest chip, which the company has been working on for the past six months, is said to be more advanced than its previous products, as per industry executives cited by FT. However, the chip designer has no plans to sell or license the product and is only working on a prototype.

As a significant supplier of intellectual property to numerous chip companies, particularly in mobile phones, Arm has partnerships with major chip contract manufacturers. Earlier this month, Intel Corp announced its collaboration with Arm to allow mobile phone chips and other products that use Arm’s technology to be produced in Intel’s factories.

At the time of writing, Arm has not responded to Reuters’ request for comment on the report.
